Common signs and symptoms to watch for are: sores in the mouth that do not heal within 2 weeks, dark red or white patches in the mouth, lumps on the lips, tongue or neck, a sore throat and difficulty swallowing.

Tooth decay is the 2nd most common cause of school absenteeism. It is 5 times more common than asthma in children 5-17. The bacteria that cause tooth decay can be transmitted by sharing a spoon with young children or licking their pacifier. It is preventable in almost all cases.
